Q3Offline Edit Map Dialog

Back to Maps Page

Map name: The name of the map.

Pak file: The pak file which contains the map.

Long name: The long name of the map; for maps imported as bsps, where there is no arena file (which normally contains the long name).

Played: If ticked, then you have already played this map.

Won: If ticked, then you have already played and won this map.

Number of bots: If ticked, then you can set the number of bots generated for this map, when the Map specific bots option is ticked on the Bots page.

Number of bots (minimum and maximum): Set the number of bots. For Free for all and Tournament games, this is the total number of bots on the map. For Team Deathmatch and Capture the flag games, you can set the number of bots separately for the red and blue teams. If the minimum and maximum values are different, Q3Offline randomly calculates a number of bots between these values.

See Bot Number Rules for a full explanation of how Q3Offline calculates how many bots you will play against.

Map specific limits: if ticked you can set certain limits on a map by map basis, overriding settings on the Game and Bots page.

Frag limit: Enter the frag limit for each map in the game. Once the frag limit is reached, Quake III Arena will automatically switch to the next map. The default value is 20. See Frag Limit Rules for details of how Q3Offline determines the frag limit for a map.

Time limit: Enter the time limit (in minutes) for each map in the game. Once the time limit is reached, Quake III Arena will automatically switch to the next map. The default value is 20 minutes.

Capture limit: Enter the capture limit for each map in the game. Once the capture limit is reached, Quake III Arena will automatically switch to the next map. This option is only enabled when the Game type is Capture the flag. The default value is 8 captures.

No. of players: If greater than 0, then Quake III Arena will spawn or kick bots from the game so that the number of bots plus the number of players equals No. of players.

This option is particularly useful for running a server via Q3Offline, where you always want the same number of participants (bots or players) on a particular map.

For example, you can set up the map q3dm1 with 4 bots, with a No. of players setting of 4. Q3Offline will start the map with initially 4 bots. As soon as a real player joins the map, a bot is kicked. If a player should leave the map, then a bot is automatically spawned by Quake III Arena to make up the numbers. Note: unlike the bots which are spawned by Q3Offline at the start of a map, Q3Offline does not control the type and skill of a bot which is automatically spawned by Quake III Arena to make up the numbers.

For team games, No. of players applies to each team, e.g., if both teams have 4 bots, and No. of players is set to 4, when a player joins the blue team a bot will be kicked from the blue team.

Advanced: Takes you to the Advanced Dialog, where you can specify, for this map, any of the Quake III Arena variables.

The Played and Won check boxes can be used to fool the Replay feature (see the Log page) into thinking that you have played or won particular maps.

Apply to all: If ticked, then when you click OK any changes to this map are applied to all maps with the same name in the other map lists, within the current Q3Offline document.

For example, the game type is Free for all and you double click on the q3dm1 map, set the Frag limit to 15, tick Apply to All and click OK. The q3dm1 maps in the Free for All, Tournament, and Team Deathmatch lists will all have a frag limit of 15. If Apply to all is not ticked, then only the q3dm1 map in the Free for all list will have a frag limit of 15.

The Apply to all check box only affects the currently loaded Q3Offline document.

Set default: Click the Set default button to make the current settings the default values for this map. You will be prompted first to confirm the changing of the default values. If you reply Yes to the prompt, then this map in all new Q3Offline documents will have the current settings.

For example, if you always want to play q3dm1 with a frag limit of 30, then double click on q3dm1 on the Maps page. Change the Frag limit to 30 on the Edit map dialog, and then click Set default. Whenever you create a new Q3Offline document, the frag limit will be set to 30 for the q3dm1 map.
